Thomas Rawlings was a wealthy merchant who set up his own Padstow bank as a mark of prestige of his enhanced standing in the community. One of his homes is now St Petroc’s Bistro and another, now demolished, Saunders Hill was second only in size to Prideaux Place and was built where The Lawn car park is now.
