A flock of starlings is called a murmuration. These flocks may include other species of starlings and sometimes species from other families.
murmuration – a low continuous indistinct sound; often accompanied by movement.
When a flock of starlings fly over you on their way to roost the murmur turns into a loud hum of thousands of beating wings, the experience is fantastic. The last three evenings we travelled to Bodmin moor (Roughtor) to witness this event for ourselves. This event will be happening for at least another week or two, if you get the chance go its worth it.
P.S take a plastic mac and wear a hat
